Where Might Comparative Literature Take You?

An education in Comparative Literature gives you experience grappling with cultural and linguistic differences and thinking outside disciplinary boxes. It emphasizes the importance of being thoughtful, analytical, flexible, and creative in all that you undertake.

During your time at the University of Oregon, our department offers multiple opportunities for hands-on experience. Join our mentored-publication Nomad, get course credit for an Internship, and complete your degree with an Honors Thesis.

After graduation, many of our students follow a variety of career paths. Some pursue careers that emphasize storytelling, research, and analysis: publishing, teaching, blogging, podcasting, translating, creative-writing, screen-writing, and journalism. Others pursue careers in film and visual culture: multimedia design, arts administration, and film production. And still others pursue political or business-related careers: law, non-profit work, political advocacy, and environmental planning.
