Michael Allan on the trail of the Lumières

Comparative Literature Associate Professor Michael Allan spoke as part of a Seminar on the History of Photography, co-organized by the School of Cinematic Arts (USC) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Professor Allan’s lecture, titled “Global Visions, Local Histories: The Lumière Brothers in the Middle East and North African,” is part of his current book-in-progress. In October, he delivered a lecture at the University of Chicago titled “On Cinema and Sovereignty: The Global Imaginary of the Lumière Archive.” Earlier in the same year, he spoke to the Abounaddara Collective on Fanaticism on Screen: The Fanatical Figure at the Dawn of Cinema.”
