Four-year Course Plan for COLT Major

The degree plan shown is only a sample of how students may complete their degrees in four years. Students should consult their advisor to determine the best path for them. Note that the plan below is easily adaptable to accommodate study abroad. Students seeking to declare the comparative literature major as a junior should meet with a Tykeson advisor or the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

First Year:

  • COLT 1xx or 2xx
  • Three terms of language instruction: first- or second-year sequence (101/102/103 or 201/202/203)

Second Year:

  • COLT 1xx or 2xx
  • Three terms of language instruction: second- or third-year sequence (201/202/203 or 301/302/303)

Junior Year:

  • COLT 301 or 305
  • One of the following: COLT 302, 303
  • Two upper-division courses in Primary Linguistic Tradition
  • Two upper-division courses in Second Focus Field
  • Complete language requirement if not completed in second year (300-level courses)

Senior Year:

  • COLT 415 (“Capstone”)
  • One 400-level elective
  • One upper-division course in Primary Linguistic Tradition
  • One upper-division course in Second Focus Field
