Planning for the Future
What are you planning to do after college?
The Career Center, in 220 Hendricks Hall, telephone 346-3235, can provide information about job opportunities and academic testing. Workshops are offered on writing resumes, finding jobs, and going to interviews. You can meet individually with a counselor to assess your job skills, work on your resume and form a plan for landing a job. The Center also keeps updated listings of part-time jobs, internships, and summer jobs. The Career Center also has information about graduate programs and financial assistance.
Graduate or professional studies
A comparative literature major is an excellent jumping-off point for many academic graduate programs and professional schools. The Career Center can also provide information about academic testing. If you are interested in continuing on to graduate school, you will need a strong academic record, a good statement of purpose and solid letters of recommendation. Most schools also require academic testing, such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Be sure to consult with the chair of undergraduate studies and at least one other faculty member about your application if you have any questions.
