Graduate Application Checklist
This checklist has been provided to aid candidates in submitting their complete applications for review. By completing each item on this checklist, candidates will fulfill the application requirements of the Office of Admissions, the Graduate School, and the Comparative Literature Program.
Timeline
Applications for Fall graduate matriculation must be received by January 15th. Candidates are notified about admission decisions in the latter half of February.

GRE Scores
► Note: COLT does not require applicants to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. (If you choose to submit the scores, the school code is 4846 and the department code is 2902.)

Transcripts
[ ] Submit one set of official transcripts to Admissions for each institution from which a degree has been earned.
[ ] Submit one set of official or unofficial transcripts to the Comparative Literature Program for each institution from which a degree has been earned and at which any additional college-level coursework was completed.
Statement of Purpose
[ ] Submit to the Comparative Literature Program a one- to two-page statement of purpose.
Writing Sample
[ ] Submit to the Comparative Literature Program a ten- to twenty-page sample, in English, of your critical or scholarly writing about literature.

Application for a Graduate Teaching Fellowship (GTF)
► This document is required of applicants seeking GTF appointments.
[ ] Obtain and complete an “Application for Graduate Teaching Fellowship.”

► The “Position” and “Department or School” should respectively be listed as “Instructor” and “Comparative Literature Program.”
[ ] Sign and date the application, then send it to the Comparative Literature Program.
► Non-native speakers of English who accept Graduate Teaching Fellowships for teaching-related positions must submit a score for the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) to the Graduate School. Individuals scoring below 50 on either of these tests will be required to attend language support classes (at no additional charge to the student) and may be subject to limitations on the kinds of activities they may carry out as GTFs. The TSE is available at many TOEFL testing sites. If a TSE score is not submitted in advance of arrival on campus, the student must take the SPEAK test administered at the University of Oregon prior to the first term of appointment.
Financial Statement
► U.S. Government regulations require that the University of Oregon verify the availability of sufficient financial support for non-immigrant students before a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) can be issued. International students must complete the International Student Financial Statement and provide supporting financial documents with their applications. Students planning to be sponsored by an agency or government should have proof of financial support sent from the sponsoring agency.
