Declaring the Major

How to declare a major in Comparative Literature

There are two ways to declare a major in comparative literature:

  1. Students may meet with an adviser in Tykeson Hall. Contact the Tykeson College and Career Advising team via the EAB Navigate app available in the App Store or Google Play, or go to their website.
  2. Students may meet with the Comparative Literature Director of Undergraduate Studies, Prof. Dawn Marlan (damarlan@uoregon.edu). Contact her via e-mail to arrange a meeting.

Declaring the Focus Fields

In consultation with a Tykeson adviser or the Comparative Literature Director of Undergraduate Studies, students choose a Primary Linguistic Tradition and a Second Focus Field (either Languages and Cultures Track or Disciplines in Dialogue Track). These fields are declared with the COLT Major, and once declared, courses completed in the focus fields will be reflected in the Degree Guide in DuckWeb. First-year and second-year students may wait to declare their focus fields, but by the end of the Fall term of Junior year, all COLT majors should have developed a plan of study that includes the designation of these fields.

Verification

When the student decides to declare the major, the Tykeson adviser or Director of Undergraduate Studies submits the required notification to the Registrar. The student should check DuckWeb to see the new major reflected about 7 days after declaring the major. After declaring the major, the Degree Guide in DuckWeb will display the status of the major requirements.
